MY TESTABLE QUESTION: Which frozen liquid melts the fastest?
INDEPENDENT VARIABLE: The Liquid.
DEPENDENT VARIABLE: The time it takes the liquid to melt..
2. Investigate the Information:
NOTES/FACTS: I will need to reach different temperatures for each liquid to freeze at the same time. I will have to determine which temperature they will all freeze in then I can start my experiment. My freezer is -4 degrees fahrenheit which is enough to freeze all the liquids quickly and at the same time.
NOW THAT I'VE DONE SOME RESEARCH, I PREDICT THE ANSWER TO MY QUESTION WILL BE: I predict that either water or salt water will melt the fastest because water freezes at a warmer temperature than many other liquids. I predict salt water because salt dries up the water and takes out the moisture which melts the ice faster. In my opinion it could be either because the salt water freezes at a colder temperature which would make it take longer to freeze.
3. Plan A Procedure:
For my procedure I will get many different liquids.
I will put the same amount of each liquid in different cups but they will all be the same
I will record at what temperature the liquids freeze and how long it takes
I will determine if they are frozen by using a toothpick and if the toothpick doesnt go through the ice anymore it is completely frozen
After they have all been frozen I will take one out at a time and record how long it takes to melt completely
When I am done with that I will be able to determine which liquid will melt the fastest.
4. What I'll Need:
I have these:
-Freezer to freeze the liquids in
-Cups to hold the liquid
-thermometer to measure the temperature of the freezer
-stopwatch to measure the time it takes to melt
-toothpick to determine the thickness of the ice
I need to locate these:
-liquids to freeze
-more than one stopwatch
